This is the best stretch of Route 3 and one of the best Adirondack Roads period. It combines loads of natural beauty, almost no roadside development, access to numerous lakes, trails and mountains as well a well built and banked stretch of road to drive on. It also gets an extra helping of snow removal and maintenance, though it can be a treacherous winter drive in foul weather. You can access Ampersand Mountain, Axtons Landing, the real Saranac Lakes, (Upper, Middle and Lower Saranac Lakes), and other great natural spots off of this stretch of road.
